Ogham, an ancient script, holds a special place in Celtic lore. According to legend, it was created by Ogma (or Ogmios), the Celtic god of eloquence and knowledge. Ogham inscriptions, unique to the British Isles, date back to between 300 and 700 AD. More than a mere alphabet, Ogham served as an alphabetic code with characters grouped in sets of fives, later including additional signs for diphthongs. The inscriptions typically feature a central stem with short staves extending left, right, or crossing it. While many Ogham inscriptions had magical purposes, most served as memorials or invocations.
Presented in a satin-lined recyclable gift box, this pendant from St Justin is a meaningful addition to any collection.
